Taking classes online always seem like a good idea, UNTIL you realize how much work it takes to manage all of the additional pieces of the online classroom. There will usually be discussion posts, online quizzes, exams, and not to mention you need to upload all of your work into the online portal.
Here are three easy and simple tips for you to follow so the you can be successful in your online classes throughout the semester.
Tip 1: Treat your online class as a regular class. Set aside the same days and times each week to work on your online class. This should not be just one day a week. If your online class is a 3 credit class, set aside at minimum two days a week for an hour to login to your online class and complete the necessary tasks. You will still need to set aside additional time to complete your assignments, study for your exams, and write your papers.
Tip 2: Always submit your work on time! This means if your assignment is due at 11:59pm on Monday, do not wait until 11:30pm on Monday to submit your assignment. In these situations, technology is usually not our friend. You never know what could happen as you attempt to submit your work. Always submit your assignment early just in case something happens with the only classroom or your own personal computer/devices.
Tip 3: At the beginning of the semester, email or message your professor to introduce yourself. Since you are in an online classroom, you want to have the same experience as you would in a regular classroom. In order to do this, you have to take the initiative and make the first contact! When emailing your professor, be sure to proofread your email and make sure you address your professor properly!
Being prepared and planning ahead are important to reaching your potential in the classroom.
